How-To Guide

How to Refill a Pre-Inked Flash Stamp

Start with surface application. This method is suitable for new or used stamps and when previous inks have been mixed or the stamp’s condition is uncertain.

01

Recommended Method

Method 1: Apply Ink to the Die Surface

This is the most reliable refill method. Use it first whether or not the stamp’s current condition is known.

02

Check the Bottle Seal

After opening the cap, puncture the aluminum seal over the bottle opening. Puncture the white paper liner inside the cap as well, then leave it in place. Do not discard this liner: it supports the seal, and removing it may cause leaks.

03

Test the Stamp on White Paper

Make several impressions before refilling. Add ink only when the impression has become almost invisible.

04

Apply Evenly to the Stamp Surface

Spread the Refill Ink evenly over the lettered area and the outer parts of the Pre-Inked Flash Stamp that form the impression. If time allows, leave it to absorb for several hours. If the stamp is needed sooner, 30 minutes may be enough, although the color can be lighter. Double the waiting time in winter or cold conditions.

05

Wipe Clean Before Use

After the ink has been absorbed, wipe the stamp surface clean with tissue before use. The first few impressions may show a small amount of residue because the die was just wiped; this should gradually return to normal after several impressions.

06

Caution

Caution When Different Inks Have Been Used

If the stamp previously used another brand or an unknown type of ink, add the new ink from the die surface using Method 1. This lets you observe absorption and color output first, reducing the risk of blurred impressions, uneven color, or liquid separation caused by an uncertain previous ink condition.

07

Method 2: Refill Through the Ink Port

If the stamp has never been refilled, add small amounts through the ink port in several stages. Check the die for color output once every hour. A stamp that has always used ORSTED Pre-Inked Flash Stamp Refill Ink can also be refilled through the port in small, repeated amounts.

08

Caution

Caution for Ink-Port Refilling

Refilling through the port depends more heavily on the condition of the ink already inside. If its source, formula, or moisture condition is unclear, adding new ink internally may change the old ink and cause liquid separation, blurred impressions, uneven color, or contamination of the die surface. If this occurs, return to Method 1.
